Production environments are isolated, always-on, monitored environments that the end-user can access using a static IP address. Sandboxes, on the other hand, are time-limited environments used for any activity in a product's lifecycle. When no longer needed, sandboxes are torn down.
As a result of these core differences between the two types of environments, production blueprints and sandbox blueprints are managed separately in CloudShell Colony, using two distinct source-control repositories.
